Donald T Buckner, Sr., 85, of Penrose, NC, went home to be with his Lord on May 7, 2024, after battling an extended illness.

Donald, fondly know as Tom, was born to the late Williard and Lillian King Buckner on Feb 13, 1939, in Asheville, NC.  He grew up in Weaverville, NC with his five siblings and graduated from North Buncombe High School.  He worked at Ecusta in Brevard for 41½ years, retiring as a maintenance engineer.  He was a devoted member of Temple Baptist Church in Brevard.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Todd Buckner, son Donald Thomas Jr. of Lake Junaluska, daughter Janice Buckner Day of Morganton, and stepdaughter Cynthia Elliott of Seneca, SC; 3 brothers Willard Buckner, Jr. (Evelyn), Charles Buckner (Alice) and Kenneth Buckner; a sister Averill Atkins (Dick); 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Tom was known as a warm, loving, and caring husband, father and grandfather.  Throughout his life he was God's hands, feet, and arms to so many.  He was willing to help anyone who needed a hand with a project or help around the house and rarely met a problem he could not solve.   In his final days he told his family over and over how blessed his life had been.  What we shared with him was how HE had been the blessing to those who knew him.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 4-5pm which will be followed by a memorial service at Temple Baptist Church, 45 Temple Church Rd, Brevard, NC.
