Sergeant Donald William Ramey, 60, passed away peacefully Sept. 29th, 2021. Don was born Nov. 21st, 1960, in Brevard to the late Myrtle and Virgil Ramey. Don attended Rosman High School with the class of 1979. After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country for six years. Upon his return to the mountains, Don worked in several industries before finding his niche in private security. He worked for Connestee Falls, Wilsonart International, and Transylvania Regional Hospital before finding his place with the Transylvania County Sheriff's Department. Don has been described as "a man with a servant's heart". He was known for his humor, quick wit, and his "stern but fair" demeanor. But most of all, Don was happiest when he was with his family, which was the most important part of life for him. "Family first" was a quote he stood and lived by. He was predeceased by his sister Sandy Eubanks, his brother David Ramey, sister-in-law Roberta Ramey and nephew Keary Mull. Don will be forever missed by his wife Mary, sons Kyle(Taylin) Ramey, Dustin Ramey and Zane Ramey; his grandchildren Norah, Hayden, and Oliver; his brothers Steve(Glinda) Ramey, Daniel(Anne) Ramey, Dexter Ramey; sisters Deanna(Andy) Mull, Shannon(Fransico) Lopez; his nieces Dennie(David) Whisenant, Heather(Kevin) Chamberlain, Dara Ramey(Jeremy Harpold), Jacque Chandler, Lisa Ledford, Beverly Brinn, great nieces and nephews Kaleigh Phillips, Kirstyn Whisenant, Courtney Dingus, Colten and Camden Chamberlain, Ramey Mull and Austin Mull. Any contributions in memory of Don can be made to the Transylvania County Sheriff's Department D.A.R.E. program. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 5th, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. at the Lake Toxaway Community Center, 81 Slick Fisher Road, Lake Toxaway, NC 28747.
