Obituary

Sapphire, NC – Dorothea Marilyn Smith went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 5, 2022.

Daughter of the late David and Martha Austin, she was the last surviving sibling.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Leon Smith and one brother, Dr. Robert Austin.

Dorothea was a devoted mother, wife, mother-in-law, grandma, and great grandma. Her life was enriched with many good friends whom she enjoyed spending time with and loved her home in Fort Lauderdale. She was a follower of Christ and faithfully attended First Christian Church in Wilton Manors, FL. She also belonged to and supported the American Legion organizations. Her hobbies included cooking, playing cards, bingo and backgammon. She enjoyed her dogs and traveling with her husband and family gatherings. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.

Survivors include one daughter, Terri Hilborn and husband Dan, one son, Steven Hudson and wife Jan, six grandchildren, Bobby, Steve, David, Aderianne, Amy and Danny, great grandchildren, Mitchell, Mackenzie, Matthew, Madeline, Hunter, Jensen, Maddox, Ayden, Adyson, Mia, Seth, Brooke, Finn, Shay, Cam, Knox and Harper and one great great grandchild, Liam James Tyson

The family will receive friends from 11am – 3pm, Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Kraeer Fairchild Funeral Home, 4061 N Federal Hwy Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308. Graveside services will be private.
