Obituary

Brevard - Edna Mae Owen Hensley, 73, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025.

A native of Transylvania County, Edna was born September 27, 1951 to Roy Clifford and Vera Gillespie Owen.  Edna retired from Transylvania County Department of Social Services after 20 years.  Edna continued to work several jobs with one being St Phillips Episcopal Church as Facilities Manager.  Edna enjoyed working and caring for others.  She loved to cook for others, cleaning, dancing, and being with her children and grandchildren.  Edna also loved people and found great joy in joking with people.  Edna also loved her Church, St. Phillips Church, and all the people she came in contact with there.

Edna is survived by her sons, Aaron Scott Hensley and his wife, Debbie, of Brevard and Craig Owen "Buster"Hensley and his wife, Jill, of Hendersonville and her daughters, Tina Hensley Self and her husband, Kyle, of Gold Coast, Australia and Kelly Hensley of Hendersonville.  Edna is survived by her grandchildren, Caitlin Collins of South Carolina, Bradley Collins and his wife Taylor, of Brevard, NC. Dylan Collins of Brevard, NC, Briar Hensley of Brevard, Alex Self and his wife, Caitlin of Gold Coast, Australia, Elias Self of Gold Coast Australia, Josiah Self of Gold Coast Australia, Raegan Hensley of Hendersonville, Tucker Hensley of Hendersonville, Savannah Hensley of Hendersonville and one great grand daughter Kathryn Lovett of South Carolina.  Edna is survived by her brothers Robert Owen, Clifton Owen, Randy Owen and his wife, Cindy of Brevard and her sisters Edith Parham and husband Roy of Central, South Carolina, Martha Jean Owen and husband Don, Shirley Hutchins and her husband Jack of Brevard, and Opal Flood of South Carolina.  Edna is also survived by her special cousin that was like a Sister, Maryann Hamilton and her daughter Josie.  Edna is also survived many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she cherished dearly.

Edna was preceded by her parents, her sister Joan Owen Salter, and brothers Charles Lee Owen, and Mike Owen and his wife Yvonne.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 27th at 2pm at St Phillips Church 256 East Main Street Brevard North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St Phillips Church in Brevard, North Carolina as the Church and their work in the Community was very dear to Edna's heart.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many people who loved Edna dearly and all the wonderful people she was friends with at St. Phillips Church.
