June 11, 1942 – March 31, 2025
Elaine Barton Hunter, age 82 of Lake Toxaway arrived safely on Heaven's shore on Monday, March 31, 2025.
A native of Transylvania County, Elaine was born on June 11, 1942 to the late Arthur William and Lucy Hall Barton. She graduated from Rosman High School and spent many years at Olin/Ecusta/P.H. Glatfelter, served as a substitute and fff teachers aid at at Rosman High school, and spent her last working years at the Greystone Inn. She married the love of her life, Kent Hunter in 1959 and together they spent 65 years building a beautiful life and raising a family that meant the world to them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by a brother, Doug Barton of Cedar Mountain.
Surviving are her husband, Kent Hunter of Lake Toxaway. Children: Michael K. Hunter of Lake Toxaway, and Kristi Johnson and husband Joe of Mills River. Grandchildren: Abbey Owen and husband Jeremy of Brevard, Noah Hunter and wife Kate of Locust NC, Charlotte Woodbury and husband Brett of Brevard, Corey Johnson of Mills River, Joanna Warren and husband Jacob of Mills River, and Eden Brannon and husband Tyler of Fayetteville. 9 great-grandchildren: Will, Sam, Levi, Jesse, Brady, Everly, Harper, McKynlie, and Jake. Two Sisters: Jean Snipes of Lake Toxaway, and Phyllis Owen (Ted) of Easley. Three Brothers: Charles Barton (Cheryl) of Lake Toxaway, Jim Barton of Lake Toxaway, and Bill Barton (Sharon) of Brevard, sisters-in-law Hilda Barton of Cedar Mountain, and Judy Anders (Wayne) of Tucksagee. Elaine is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that she cherished.
The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Lake Toxaway Baptist Church (150 Toxaway Church Rd)with the service following at 6pm with her grandson Jacob Warren officiating.
Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions can be made to the Lake Toxaway Baptist Church cemetery fund, PO Box 482, Lake Toxaway, NC 29747.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the care partners hospice staff and the nursing staff of Transylvania regional hospital for the "above and beyond" care they provided.
