Brevard, NC - Libby was born NC December 22, 1947, in Barker's Creek (a suburb of Sylva, NC) to Mildred and Grover Davis who farmed the land and cut timber for a living. Libby's Mom worked hard at the Sylva Buster Brown Factory and Libby learned at a young age to work hard preparing meals during the week for her older sister, Brenda, and family. Libby was a perfectionist and kept the house "clean as a whistle". Dirt didn't stand a chance on the family floors.

She desired better things in her life, so she graduated from Beauty School and opened her own salon in the 60's along with raising her two sons, Scott, and Chris. Libby was challenged and moved to Greensboro, NC with her sons to get ahead in Life! After a short time working at a 711 store, she landed a great job at JC Penney's Salon and in a short time she was promoted to Salon Manager. She excelled in her career and retired after 25 years as one of Penney's best salon managers in the US.

Libby met George Barrett in 1997 and a true romance started; both liked to dance, travel, and make their surroundings better whether it was improving their home décor or making the country clubs George managed better! Travel and church dominated Libby's life and when George was hired at Connestee Falls, Libby became very involved with BCC (Brevard Community Church) and later First Baptist Church. She truly enjoyed helping her church family and her own family and she spent hours in various bible study classes. Her love for organizing birthday parties became well known and appreciated by her Brevard friends and her family from Sylva and Jackson County! Libby and George traveled the world, but the most important part of her life was her church, home, family, and friends.

Libby is survived by her loving husband, Mr. George Barrett and their five sons, Scott McMahan (Michelle) of Landrum, SC, Chris McMahan (Melissa) of Murfreesboro, TN, Bradley Barrett (Colleen) of Atlanta, GA, Jeffrey Barrett (Adrienne) of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Gregory Barrett (Lisa) of Satellite Beach, FL. Also survived by her sister Brenda Wilke (Wilmer) of Ontario, Canada, niece, Angie Berkemeyer (Ralf), nephews, Joel Wilke (Evelyn), and Mark Wilke (Candice), brother-in-law, Gordon Barrett (Jeri) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Libby's precious grandchildren, Ashten Brown (Ben), Chapin McMahan, Bailey Schweitzer (Nick), Madison McMahan, Lucy McMahan, and Allison and Owen Barrett, and 5 great grands: Blase, Shyla, Alexander, Cameron, and William. Other special relationships are Berdine Owen, stepmom, Daryl Webb, preacher, Ricky Gibson, preacher, Marlene Gibson, adopted sister, and many cousins, nephews, and great nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 23, 2023, at First Baptist Church Brevard. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 3 PM Friday at Davis Family Cemetery, 1355 Barkers Creek Rd., Whittier, NC.
