Elzie Buckner Brevard – Elzie Buckner, 83, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals, Asheville, NC. A native of Jackson County, NC, he was the son of the late Esby Buckner, Sr., and Bealuah Galloway Buckner. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Payton and Justin Buckner, sisters, Frances Buckner, Gladys McCall, and Eloise Galloway, and brothers, Asberry Buckner, William Buckner, Elmer Buckner, and Esby Buckner, Jr. He attended Balsam Grove Scholl and he was a member of Woods Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are his longtime companion, Mary Jane Raines; daughters, Hope Suarez and husband Juan, and Heidi Raynor all of Brevard; sons, Stacy Buckner and wife Sandy, and Shayne Buckner and wife Mary all of Tuxedo, NC; step-daughter, Meloney Kolar Willix; sisters, Evelyn Whitmire of Pisgah Forest, Faye Taylor of Elkins, NC, and Mildred Buckner of Pisgah Forest; brother. Wallace Buckner of Cherryville, NC; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. The funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, February 15, 2014 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Owen officiating. Burial will be in Woods Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
