Obituary

Elzie Golet Chapman, 92, of Brevard passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Phillip Edmund Chapman and the late Mary Ethel McCall Chapman. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Ophelia Jarrett Chapman, sisters Lola Owen, Otha Owen, Envilee O'Shields, Victoria Gates, Frances Nicholson, Mary Lou Tennis and Verdary Owen and brothers Edward Chapman and Everette Chapman. Mr. Chapman served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Chapman was a member of the Rosman Church of God and was retired from Mitchell-Bissell Industries. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and their families. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home in Brevard with Rev. Michael Pressley officiating with interment to follow at Whitmire Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00- 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Whitmire Cemetery Fund, c/o Willie and Gail Wilson, 21 Reed Siding Road, Lake Toxaway, NC 28747.
