Pisgah Forest - Sarah Ema Lee Tinsley Mathis, age 92, went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2025.
Born in Transylvania County to the late Willie G. and Eula Samantha Hudson Tinsley. She was also preceded by her stepmother Minnie Tinsley, daughter, Barbara Ann Mathis, son-in-law Michael Campbell, grandson, Nathan Mathis, great-granddaughter, AbbyLea Masters, sister, Grace Tinsley Franks (Furman), brother, James "JP" Tinsley, and stepbrothers, Glen and Ted Newton all from Pisgah Forest.
Ema cherished spending time with her family also quilting, sewing, crocheting, planting flowers and singing in the choir at Turkey Creek Baptist Church where she was a member and former member of Enon Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of over 74 years Orville Mathis, son, Jerry Mathis, daughters, Nancy Lusk (Lester), Orvella Mathis, and Cendia Campbell all from Pisgah Forest. Five grandchildren, Julie Ledbetter, Brad Anders, Chad Anders (Amber), Jacqui Owen (Pat), and Michael "Mikie" Campbell, eleven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank the Hospice nurses and the Little River Fire Department for their help with caring for their mother.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Little River Fire Department in memory of Ema Mathis.
Graveside services will be 1pm, Monday, December 15, 2025 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Pisgah Forest.
