Ernest Powell, age 85, of Rosman, died peacefully at home with his family surrounding him on Sunday, September 22, 2013. Born in the family home on Pickens Highway, he was the son of the late Roman Cornelius and Annie Elizabeth Meece Powell. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Charles W. Powell and Melvin L. Powell, and his sister, Josephine P. Chappell.
Mr. Powell proudly served our country in the United States Army and was stationed in La Rochelle France during the Korean War. He retired from Powell's Paint & Body Shop as owner/auto body repairman in 2005. He was a member of Middle Fork Baptist Church.
His survivors include his wife of 64 years, Barbara Jo Pangle Powell, daughter Beth Ihme and husband Jerry; grandson Shane Ihme, granddaughter Kristin Brown and husband Joshua, all of Rosman; his sister, Norma P. Raines of Rosman, sisters-in-law Diane F. Powell of Easley, SC, and Mary P. McCrary of Pisgah Forest, and brother-in-law Bill Pangle and wife Anita of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday September 28, 2013 at Middle Fork Baptist Church, with Rev. Chester Chappell, Rev. Tony Lambert and Rev. Mike Pressley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
