Obituary

Ernest Gene "Rusty" Taylor, 77, passed away suddenly on September 24, 2025, in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Born on August 2, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, Rusty lived a vibrant and full life marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and a passion for the things he loved most (The Ohio State Buckeyes!!!).

Rusty graduated from West High School in Columbus, Ohio. After High School, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he attended The Ohio State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. His Buckeye pride remained a lifelong passion—he was an enthusiastic supporter of OSU football and rarely missed a game.

After graduating from college, Rusty embarked on a successful professional journey that reflected both his entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen. He moved to Youngstown, Ohio to be a manager of a BF Goodrich Tire Dealership. After which, he moved to Reynoldsburg, Ohio where he owned and operated Rusty Taylor's Tirerama—a business that became well-known in the community. Later in life, he transitioned into a career as a stockbroker until his retirement.

Rusty's life was deeply enriched by those closest to him. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Beverly Taylor; his son, Christopher Taylor; his daughter, Melissa Taylor; and his cherished granddaughters, Alexis Taylor and Marisa Taylor. He also leaves behind his brother Eric Taylor; niece Amber Taylor; nephew Matthew Taylor; uncles Jimmy Taylor and Loren (Nadine) Taylor; aunt Helen Manring; and best friend Richard Wandoff.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers Wanetta Eades Reber and Dorothy Taylor; grandfathers Maxwell Taylor and Elze Manring; father Ernest R. Taylor; mother Donna June Taylor; and uncle Gene Manring.

Rusty had an infectious zest for life. Whether enjoying breakfast with friends or family, watching movies, working on his cars, talking politics, or cheering on the Buckeyes each fall weekend. His warmth and humor left lasting impressions on all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Rusty's memory.

May his memory and boisterous, contagious laugh bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire stories filled with laughter and love.
