Obituary

Ervin John Neumaier, Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in Mills River, North Carolina on December 25, 2024. Born on December 12, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the beloved son of Ervin John, Sr. and Irene (Suk) Neumaier.

A proud veteran, Ervin served his country in the Korean War before dedicating his life to his family and passions. He spent the majority of his years in the Chicagoland area, where he established and ran The Antique Bazaar, a large and well-respected antique business. Beyond his work, Ervin found joy in capturing the beauty of the natural world through his oil-on-canvas paintings, most of which reflected his deep appreciation for nature and animals.

Ervin's life was defined by his love for his family, his artistry and his generosity to all who knew him. His artwork, cherished by family and friends alike, serves as a lasting testament to his talent and spirit.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Rios Neumaier; his son, Ervin John Neumaier III (Michele); his daughter, Nancy Vignocchi (Stephen); his grandchildren Emily, Christopher, Ellie (fiancé, Matt Zrelak), Michael; and his great-granddaughter, Zoii Bradshaw. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Ervin's memory are encouraged to make a donation to organizations close to his heart: The Council on Aging in Hendersonville, North Carolina, at coahc.org; or the Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, at DuPageforest.org.

In accordance with Ervin's wishes, he will be cremated, and his ashes will be spread in a place that reflects his lifelong passion for nature, wildlife, and animals. A private ceremony will be held for immediate family in the coming year to honor his memory in a way that was most meaningful to him.
