Brevard – Everett A. O'Shields, 78, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Oaks of Brevard. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Jess and Nora Galloway O'Shields. Mr. O'Shields was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving 22 years on active duty, and he was retired from the Transylvania County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Dunn's Rock Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Lillian Rogers O'Shields; son, Malcolm E. O'Shields and wife Vicki of Fairview; daughter, Malinda Sorrells of Rosman; step-son, John Heath and wife Tammy of Candler; step-daughter, Denise Wilson and husband Rick of Brevard; brother, Morris O'Shields of Virginia; sister, Mary Whitmire of Brevard; 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Morningside Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Voorhes officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church Building Fund, 91 Outland Ave., Brevard, NC 28712, or to one's favorite charity.
