Florence Souther Clay, 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Transylvania Regional Hospital.
A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Dewitt Talmage Souther and Reba Pearl Case and was the wife of the late James Luther Clay who died in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Souther, and her sister, Louise Houk.
Florence was a member of Boylston Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday School teacher, Church Secretary, WMU Director, VBS Director, and on the Benevolence Committee. She was a charter member of the Happy Valley Homemakers Club.
Florence was the example in the community of wife, mother, homemaker, cook, gardener, friend, and was active in all church functions. She was the best mom and grandmother a family could have. She was well known for her fried apple pies.
Surviving are her sons, Luther Alan Clay and wife Joy of Buford, GA, and James Earl Clay and wife Georgia of Pfafftown, NC; daughter, Lois Perkins and husband Robert of Gastonia; brothers, Tommy Souther and wife Martha of Mills River, Floyd Souther of Etowah, Frank Souther and wife Lea of Hemet, CA, and Robert Souther of Mills River; grandchildren, Michael Clay and wife Julie of Buford, GA; Amanda Clay of Pfafftown, and Kenneth Perkins and fiancée Andrea Ament of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandson, Gabriel Clay of Buford, GA; numerous nieces and nephews and many very special friends.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Boylston Baptist Church with the Revs. James Burress and Michael Clay officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Friday at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.
