Obituary

Frank C. Harmon of Brevard, North Carolina died on April 28, 2011 at Transylvania Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Harmon was born on January 3, 1923 in . Statesville, North Carolina, the only child of the late Arthur C. and Sally Tatum Harmon. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bonnie McLelland Harmon and was predeceased by their only child, Giles A. Harmon, a North Carolina Highway Patrolman who was killed in the line of duty in 1985. Mr. Harmon was retired from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction where he served as Equipment Superintendent of the Western Counties. For many years, he and his wife owned and operated the Sunset Motel in Brevard. He was a long time member of First United Methodist Church in Brevard. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his cousins, Aileen Daniels, Dwight Harmon, Frances Whitley, Bud Tatum, Lorena Mitchell, Richard Tatum, Bill Tatum, Bonnie McLivane, Bobby Tatum, and Jim Tatum. His memory is also cherished by his large extended family of relatives and friends who were blessed by his gentle spirit, great wit, and willingness to always help others. Mr. Harmon's wife and family are particularly grateful for the care and support given by the staff at Transylvania Regional Hospital, the love and caring from special friends, and the support of members of the North Carolina Highway Patrol. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Harmon will be held on Monday, May 2 at First United Methodist Church in Brevard at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael Jordan officiating. Family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent to The Giles Harmon Memorial Scholarship Fund, 600 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805 or the Building Fund at First United Methodist Church, 325 North Broad Street, Brevard, NC 28712.
