Frank Owen Balsam Grove – Frank Owen, 91, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 26, 2015. A native of Transylvania County he was the son of the late Ephraim and Laurie McCall Owen and was the husband of the late Bessie Galloway Owen. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sandy Owen Kitchen, five brothers and three sisters. Mr. Owen was a well decorated soldier serving in the U.S. Army, Company 2, 317th Battalion during WW II. He saw action in France and Central Europe including the Battle of the Bulge. He was the former owner/operator of Owen's Grocery in Cathey's Creek and was a member and Deacon of Woods Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are his son, Grady C. Owen and wife Wanda of Pisgah Forest; granddaughter, Renay Owen of Brevard; great grandchildren, Jonathan Robert "Bobby" Kitchen of Brevard and Sgt. Phillip Michael "Mikki" Kitchen and wife Heidi of Augusta, GA; great-great grandchildren, Madison Lira-Kitchen of Pueblo, CO, Savada and Braxton Kitchen of Augusta, GA. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Woods Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Devon Owen and Truitt Owen officiating. Burial will be in Woods Cemetery.
