Brevard - Franklin Delanore Rimmer, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. He was born to the late Grover Cleveland Rimmer and Marie Tate Rimmer October 24, 1936 in Charlotte, N.C. He spent 22 years in the military and served on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mendota in Vietnam, retiring from the U.S. Coast Guard as a chief petty officer in 1975. In 1969 he married Bobbie Sherrill McCrary in Wilmington, N.C. He spent the next 20 years in law enforcement in Brevard, N.C., retiring in 1995 as detective lieutenant from the Brevard Police Department. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William W. Rimmer who died in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Rimmer; three brothers, Jack. L. Rimmer and Joe W. Rimmer, both of Charlotte, N.C.; James (Jimmy) D. Rimmer, of Greeneville, S.C.; and one sister, Jan Marie Whitted of Charlotte, N.C. He is also survived by four stepchildren: Diane Hodgkins, Eddie McCrary, Sherry Walker, and Kenneth McCrary and their spouses, as well as 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 24, 2011 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Smith officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens.The pallbearers will be grandsons, Anthony Hodgkins, Nathan Hodgkins, Jason McCrary, Mark McCrary, and Tim McCrary. Honorary pallbearers will be sons Kenneth McCrary and Eddie McCrary. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
