Obituary

Fred Dodson, age 92, of Rosman NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ peacefully on Saturday March 29, 2025.

Born on February 19, 1933, in Rosman, Transylvania County, NC, he was the son of late Claude Edgar Dodson and Lola Aiken Dodson of Rosman NC. In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Powell Dodson, sister Margaret Dodson Tabor of Wagener, SC, brother Carroll Dodson of Rosman NC and sister-in-law Carolyn Dodson of Wagener, SC.

He is survived by his brothers Rev. Leroy Dodson (Gloria) of Wagener SC, Joe Dodson (Gale) of Wagener SC and his sister Barbara Dodson Strang (John) missionaries to Mexico; his three sons, Michael Dodson (Maryann) of Horseshoe NC, Terry Dodson (Alice) of Rosman NC and Rev. Eddie Dodson (Diane) of Rosman NC. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren: Jonathan Dodson (Selina) of Rosman NC, Melissa Dodson Moody (Rev. Scott) of Arden NC, August Dodson Hall (Dennis) of Balsam Grove NC, Sarah Dodson Williams (Rev. James) of Central SC, Tessa Dodson of Pumpkintown SC and Jamie Dodson (Kelly) of Rosman NC. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren plus many other loving nieces and nephews.

Fred trusted in the Lord Jesus as his savior in 1993.  After his salvation, he dedicated himself to his faith and was a faithful member of East Fork Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and used his talents and skills to serve the church with remodels and other projects.

Fred's life was hallmarked through his service. Fred served as a decorated Sargeant in the Army as a M1-Rifle instructor during the Korean War at Fort Jackson. When he returned home, he studied plumbing and construction and worked for the Army Corps of Engineers where he contributed to building landmarks all over Western North Carolina and South Carolina. Fred also served the Rosman community by being one of the founders of the Rosman Fire & Rescue and helped build the building that stands today. Later, he went on to serve the community of Rosman working for the town providing water and sanitation. He enjoyed working in the garden, fishing in the East Fork River, being creative in both woodworking and repurposing treasures. Perhaps the most profound example of his service was to his family and friends through his unwavering faith, wisdom, guidance, love, steadfastness, and always taking care of those around him.

The family will receive friends at East Fork Baptist Church on Tuesday April 1st from 5-7pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 2nd at 2pm at East Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Dodson officiating. Interment will follow at the family cemetery, Haskell Powell Memorial Cemetery.
