Gary Lee Wingfield passed away on September 28, 2024.

He was born in Miami, Florida on August 28, 1941, and graduated from University of Florida in 1965. He was a dedicated engineer for 68 years. Five of those years he served at Kennedy Space Center on the Saturn 5 project helping to get the first man on the moon. He then moved to Jacksonville, FL and worked for Reynolds, Smith and Hills and Haskell Company as a design engineer and project manager, and eventually was part owner in his own company (LRW Engineering Consultants Inc.) for thirteen years. He was a dedicated member of APEC and ASHRAE earning the titles of "Engineer of the Year" in 1978 and 1980, "Fellow" in 2006, and "50 Year Distinguished Service Award" in 2016.

After he saw a need for women in Rotary, he became charter president of East Arlington Rotary and eventually was made a Rotary "fellow." He enjoyed fishing, boating, skiing, camping, working with youth, and was a member of church choirs for 65 years. He and Mary have been members of Cashiers United Methodist Church since 2014.

Besides his wife, Mary, he leaves behind two sons (David and Todd) two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, two sisters (Anne Rossman and Gay Henegar) and their husbands, and a large number of nieces and nephews.  Donations may be made to Cashiers United Methodist Church or Alzheimer Foundation of America ( alzfdn.com ).

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 2 PM at Cashiers United Methodist Church.
