Gayle Edward Ramsey, son of Ralph H Ramsey Jr. and Mary Alford Ramsey, died in his sleep at home on March 5th 2025, at12:18 am. He had been ill with Pulmonary Fibrosis for several years.
Ramsey was educated in local city schools and in 1960 received a BA from Wake Forest. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Army and ended his service in 1964. He received a master's degree in history from UNC Chapel Hill and completed his law degree in 1968. Finishing his law degree he then returned to Brevard to join his father's legal firm Ramsey, Hill and Smart. He ended his legal practice in 2023 after 50 years of service to the Transylvania community. During that time, he served on the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of Kiwanis Club, was a Boy Scout Troop 703 advisor and was an Elder with the Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church. He taught Sunday school and served the church in many other ways.
Ramsey had a great interest in health, mental and physical. He was extremely active, exercising and running, as well as attending educational courses in many areas during his life as an attorney. He also had a great love of the outdoors and spent his free time enjoying gardening, tending an apple orchard, hiking and kayaking.
He was married to Virginia Wellborn Ramsey from New Orleans and daughter of Samuel Colven Wellborn and Virginia Randoph Clarke. She bore four Ramsey children in Brevard, Virginia, Katherine, David and Edward.
The funeral service will be held at Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church on March 29th, 2025, at 3:00 with reception following at the same location.
