Obituary

Gladys "Ann" Cantrell, 97, passed away December 6, 2022, and entered the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was born December 14, 1924, to H.G. Houston and Inez Parrish Houston. The family began in Franklin, NC, moving to Asheville, NC and eventually arriving to stay in Little River, NC. Ann was part of a large family of three bothers and four sisters including herself. As she began her 20s, she married Roy "Mac" MacDaniel Cantrell and then began her own family. Eventually they returned to Little River, NC to stay near her parents and raise their family together.

Ann is predeceased by her husband Mac Cantrell, son Leroy Cantrell, son James Cantrell and daughter Synthia Renee Cantrell, and her brothers Johnny Houston, Verco Houston and her sister Novella Houston Sharpe.

Those left to cherish her memory are her faithful daughter, Patricia Cantrell Rogers (Bill) of Rosman, NC and her son David Cantrell (Donna) of Ozark, AL; her sisters, Jessie Mae Houston Doty of Pickens, SC, and Mary Alice Houston Childs (Wendell) of Pickens, SC. Ann has left behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews whom she all loved very much.

While living her life, she loved sharing her faith and her life experiences with anyone who would listen. She was spirited, outspoken and had a great laugh! As a result of growing up during the depression, she was a hard worker and worked her whole life in one way or the other. The things that we know that brought her joy were her faith in Jesus, being with her family, caring for her little house, making a small garden each year, and enjoying the flowers growing in her yard. She would be up for traveling any chance she could get and willing to go with anyone happy to let her tag along. Over her many years, she has had many friends and touched many lives. All of us who remain will miss her. But, as she would always say as she left or ended a phone conversation, "Bye for now".

On Sunday, December 11, 2022, a time for visitation and a memorial service will be held at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, 181 S. Caldwell St., Brevard, NC. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm and the service will be held at 2:00 pm. The family is grateful to all of the sweet people who lovingly cared for "Gladys" during the last part of her life at Kingsbridge House and there is much appreciation for those with Four Seasons who helped during those last days. Of course, flowers are always welcome, but if anyone would like to give to an important cause we would like to recommend the Four Seasons Foundation (fourseasonsfdn.org).

Online condolences may be left at www.moodyconnollyfuneralhome.com.
