Obituary

Gregory "Greg" Charles Evans, 72, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, with family by his side. Greg was born on July 24, 1953, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to the late Frederick and Esther Evans.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Susan "Sue" Evans; three children, Matthew (Natalie) Evans, Erica (Aaron) Adler, and Kimberly (Tristan) Evans; six cherished grandchildren, Makenzie, Rylie, Tyler, Shane, Colton, and Silas; his sister, Jude Blum; and brother, Loring Evans. He was predeceased by his brother, Steve Evans.

After earning his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Bryant College, Greg moved to Northern Virginia, where he completed a Master of Business Administration at George Washington University. Later in his career, he pursued his passion for the environment by earning a master's degree in Natural Resources from Virginia Tech University.

Greg spent more than 40 years in the Northern Virginia area, where he built a distinguished career and left a lasting legacy of public service. His professional path included working in the White House and as staff in the U.S. Congress, followed by a transition to the environmental consulting industry, where he championed environmental protection. Before retiring, Greg served in the Virginia Governor's Office as Special Assistant to the Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry.

Greg's dedication to conservation extended well beyond his career. He served as Chairman of the Fairfax County Park Authority Board, earning special recognition for his leadership and years of service. He also was elected multiple times to the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District Board and contributed his expertise to numerous other conservation and advisory councils.

As his career wound down, Greg and Sue built and moved into their dream home in the mountains of Brevard. He cherished exploring the area's beautiful trails and spending quiet days with Sue, surrounded by the nature he loved so deeply.

A celebration of Greg's life will be held on November 3, 2025, 12:30pm at Fred W. Symmes Chapel ("Pretty Place"), known for its breathtaking views. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Four Seasons Hospice in Greg's memory.

Greg will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy of service, compassion, and stewardship of the natural world will continue to inspire all who knew him.
