Harold Wellington, age 100, of Brevard, NC, left this world for a better adventure than he had ever experienced while on this earth on December 19, 2024.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1924. He was an avid traveler, he met his wife of 24 years Beatrice, while camping across the US with the Good Sam's Singles Club. Mr. Wellington was a previous resident of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Florida.
Harold was a man of many interests, in addition to travel he loved, history and wood working, making wooden toy cars which he carried in his pocket to give to random children and donated to charity every Christmas, making display cabinets, walking sticks and canes, clocks, rocking horses, whatever someone asked him to make.
His proudest memories were of his service in World War ll. Serving in three branches, the Merchant Marines, the Army and the Navy. He received many acknowledgements in his life, but he most treasured the Congressional Gold Medal that recognized the Merchant Marines for their service.
Harold's most recent interest was being a volunteer at Veterans History Museum of The Carolinas in Brevard, NC. He made so many friends there, it gave him a purpose in his last active years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Wyman Wellington, father, Albert M. Wellington, wife, Beatrice Ray Wellington, siblings, Wilma and Bob, and one niece, Joyce Stanley.
Survivors include Dale (Buddy) Mountjoy, Delmus Baynard, Jerry Stanley, Matthew (Traci) Triller, Shelbi Williams, Heather Triller, Trenton Triller, Skylar Malloy, Tristan White, Christy (David) McCall, JohnScott (Kandie) Baynard, Mamie (Chris) Aiken, Katie Baynard, Jenny Baynard and Addie Aiken.
The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with military rites.
