Brevard - Helen Jones McKinney, age 81, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, surrounded by loving friends and family.

She was born on February 16, 1944 in Mill Spring, North Carolina to the late Laxton Lynch Jones and Julia McGuinn Jones. Helen lived a full life marked by strength, faith, and generosity. Professionally, she had a long career in Insurance; working for Sneeden Insurance for over 40 years. Outside of her career, she was an avid reader who found joy in the pages of countless books. She loved spending time with her family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Helen also had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hiking and camping adventures.

She married Jimmy McKinney on July 7, 1963, and together they shared 62 years of love and partnership.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, her devoted son, Brian McKinney and her daughter-in-law, Michelle McKinney. She was a grandmother to her precious granddaughter, Samantha McKinney. Helen is also survived by her dear sisters, Tressie Steppe of Sunny View, NC, Margaret Jackson of Marion, NC, Phyllis Jackson of Hendersonville, NC; Aunt Mollie-Jo Robinson of Columbus, NC; several nieces and nephews.

Her warmth and love for life touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of Helen McKinney's life will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church, Pisgah Forest, NC at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Pisgah Forest Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
