Brevard - Helen Pressley, 89 years old, the beloved spitfire and avid story-teller went hand in hand with death to be reunited with those waiting for her on the other side on Tuesday morning, August 31, 2021.
Helen was born in Transylvania County to the late Vess and Louise Galloway. In addition to her parents, Helen is proceeded in death by her husband, daughter, Lynn Pressley, and all but one of her siblings.
She spent much of her younger years in Rabun County Ga, until she made her way back to the WNC mountains by way of a covered wagon. Helen was the oldest of 9 children. Being the eldest, she was a sister and a maternal figure to her siblings, even mistaking a bear cub for her mischievous baby brother one dark night. In 1947, Helen met the love of her life, Jesse Pressley. They met on a Monday and were married on Friday of the same week. They stood steadfast beside each other through the highlights and challenges of life for 58 years. Their life was filled with love and adventure; from raising 4 stubborn and strong-willed children and moving up and down the east coast until their travels settled them back home in Rosman to be near family. Helen was such a spitfire in life. Some of her younger day antics include hiding hooch under her floor length skirt from the local sheriff, stealing a car, and giving Annie Oakley a run for her money as a skilled marksman. Helen was a phenomenal story teller. We will all miss sharing laughs and memories with her as well as her homemade biscuits that she studiously made for the Rosman High Wrestling Team and Henderson County EMS. After this is all said and done, Helen was immensely loyal to her family and her faith in the Lord.
Survivors include sister, Betty Jean Lance of Pickens, son, Rick Pressley and Wife Pauline of Brevard, daughter , Lorinda Hall of Shelby and her devoted daughter and caregiver, Charlene Chappell and husband Greg of Brevard. Helen is also survived by a gaggle of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and cousins, nieces and nephews spanning all over the south.
Helen and her family would like to personally thank Lynn, Joy, Glenys, Iris, and everyone involved in her care at Four Seasons Hospice over the last 7 months.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Four Seasons Hospice Angel Fund, 571 S. Allen Rd, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
Graveside services will be held 1pm, Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Old Toxaway Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Lambert officiating.
