Henry Jackson Long

Henry Jackson Long, 81 of Brevard, North Carolina went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 17, 2023.

Henry was born in Haywood County on December 12, 1941,to Avery Jackson Long and Lois Brown Long.  He graduated salutatorian in his class at Bethel High School in 1959.  After briefly attending Western Carolina University Henry enlisted in the United States Navy serving from 1960 to 1964.  He served on a naval fuel tanker as a ship's mechanic and traveled to many places around the world during his tour of duty.  He and his ship were part of the fleet that responded to the Cuban Missile Crisis in October of 1962.  After his Naval service Henry began his career as an industrial mechanic. He was employed by the E. I. du Pont de Nemours Brevard Plant for 26 years in the Maintenance Department, retiring early in 1991. For the next decade Henry worked in home construction and performed handyman work. He was an avid football and NASCAR fan.  Henry particularly enjoyed serving the Lord as a deacon at Carr's Hill Baptist Church for over 40 years.

Henry was preceded in death by his father, Avery Jackson Long; mother, Lois Brown Long, and son, Phillip Jackson Long.

Henry is survived by his wife, Carolyn Miller Long of Brevard; daughter, Vicki Long Whilden of Charlotte; brothers; Brice Long and his wife, Debbie, of Canton, and Martin Long and his wife Debbie, of Canton.

A Memorial Service will be held at Carr's Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, September 30, 2023. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m, and the service will be at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Aaron Whitmire will officiate.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Carr's Hill Baptist Church.
