IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Paul
Duncan
June 9, 2021 – April 19, 2025
Etowah - James Paul Duncan, 3, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, in the arms of his parents at his home in Etowah. Several days before his passing, in the midst of what seemed to be utter darkness, James told his dadda that he was going to be a superhero. One of the definitions of a superhero is "someone who has done something very brave to help someone else." James, just a few months earlier, made the unexpected comment that "God made me special." This is, without a doubt, an accurate statement. To consider the impact of James upon this world is to first see and feel joy in knowing him and his story. As James traveled along the very bumpy road of cancer, he touched many lives. Multiple churches and many people that didn't even know him were drawn to carry him in prayer through his trials. And the reward was the sweet joy of seeing him smile. There were so many times that his endurance and strength for such a young age seemed supernatural. He was very brave. God blessed his parents, family, and friends with a few short, but extremely precious, years with James. He was truly a gift worth having. The transformations and impact that James has made in the lives that he touched will continue for years to come. Friendships have been made; kindness and love has overflowed. James was the good soil in which many seeds were planted. Through this little superhero, many have experienced and will continue to experience the goodness of God. James is survived by his parents, Chris and Nicole Duncan; brother Wyatt; paternal grandparents, Scot and Sarah Duncan; maternal grandparents, Xavier "Cugie" and Delaine Virtucio; paternal great grandparents, Diane Duncan, Grover Simpkins, and Dianne Kelley; maternal great grandparents, James Fields and Teresa Bush; Cousins, Marlowe Virtucio, Jude Virtucio, Nora Virtucio, Atti Virtucio, Leagan Akers; aunts and uncles, Sarah/Levi Akers, Caleb/Anna Duncan, Scarlett Duncan, Mark/Katie Virtucio; predeceased paternal great grandparents Larry "Paw" Duncan and Mary Ann Simpkins "Nanny", predeceased maternal great grandparents Thomas and Erna Virtucio, Norene Damico.
