James Ernest Jones, Sr. of Brevard passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. He was the son of the late Ernest and Fay Cogdill Jones. He was preceded in death by his step-mom, Nina C. Jones, sister; Marie Jones Smith and brother-in-law; Carroll E. Smith Born and raised in Haywood County, he came to Brevard with his wife and young daughter to work for Dupont in 1958 where he made many lifelong friends. James was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church for 57 years. He was a member of the Pisgah Forest Lions Club. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed camping in the Pisgah National Forest and the Smokey Mountains and enjoyed many trips to Myrtle Beach. James had a 1986 Ford truck that he kept in showroom condition. He was a very loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Thompson Jones, son; James E. Jones, Jr. of Little River, daughter; Darlene Jones Bailey and husband Kirby of Bishop, GA, grandchildren; Chip (Amber), Wesley and James and great grandchildren; Emma and Laura. Funeral Services will be held 2pm, Friday, October 20, 2017 at Turkey Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
