Mills River – James "Loster" Morris, 99, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, January 31, 2015.
Loster was born on April 15, 1915, in Mc Dowell County to the late James Noah Morris and Lue Vena Moore Morris. In addition to his parents, Loster was predeceased by his wife, Annie Golden Morris of 67 years; son-in –law, Thomas K. McCrary, Sr.; seven sisters and three brothers.
At the time of his death, Loster was the second oldest member of Cherryfield Baptist Church, having joined at the age of 15. In more recent years; however, he attended Boylston Baptist Church.
He will continue to be loved, cherished, and remembered for his steadfast devotion, joy, humor, willingness to help others and his many other virtues by his daughters Martha M. McCrary of Brevard, NC and Kathy L. Morris of Raleigh, NC, his son-in-law Samuel S. Pickens, and special family friend, Charles E. Ayers of Canton, NC, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Loster was a self-made man being able to accomplish any goal he undertook. He could build a house from beginning to end, measuring precisely so there was no wasted lumber. He taught himself to wire and plum a house. He built all types of machinery for his tractor when these items were not available through the manufacture.
Loster always worked at least two jobs. He was as employee in the textile industry plus he had a small farm where he had cattle and the usual duties associated with them. He loved to grow a large garden every year, not only for his family, but to share with his neighbors and friends.
He loved to fish, hunt, and was a true Braves Baseball fan.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, February 3, 2015, in the chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev Jimmy Burress will officiate. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the Boylston Baptist Church Building Fund, 9949 Boylston Hwy, Mills River, NC, 28759.
