IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean Mccarson
Calhoun
September 28, 1940 – August 18, 2024
Brevard - Jean McCarson Calhoun entered into eternal rest in God's arms on Sunday, August 18, 2024. She was born September 28, 1940 and raised on a farm in Henderson County.
She was the daughter of Hubert Smith McCarson and Gladys Amanda Nelson. She was blessed to marry the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) F. Calhoun, later in life. They were happily married for over 30 years.
Her tenacious spirit enabled her to raise her family as a solo parent during a time when there was little support in doing so. She worked professionally as a dental assistant for many years as well as for a time at Olin and in retail. She was known for her creative abilities whether it was in homemaking, cooking and gardening. Her spring and summer gardens were spectacular. She was also a talented seamstress and put her talent to use sewing clothing and doing fine work, particularly later in life in her avocation restoring vintage and antique dolls. She and Chuck enjoyed going to shows in Virginia, NC and Tennessee. But more than this, she was a child of God. Raised in the Southern Baptist faith tradition, she was a member of Mt. Moriah Calvary Baptist Church for many years. On August 18, after a brief illness, she claimed the promise of her faith—salvation through Christ and a life in the care and presence of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her brothers, Guy, Mack, Edward, Harold and Allen.
She is survived by her family who will miss her greatly, Karen B. Hittel (Steve) of Midlothian, VA and Thomas E. Banning (Tina) of Gainesville, GA, sister, Patty Roberts of Hendersonville, grandchildren, Brandon Roberts, Karen Banning, Michael Banning, Jon Hittel and Ben Hittel and great grandchildren Kayson, Bentley and Eleanor.
Her family would like to express gratitude to all those who have reached out with their love, prayers and support for Jean.
Services will be held 11am, Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
