Jimmie Ray Canup

Brevard- Jimmie Ray Canup, 83, passed away on Sunday, November 12th, 2023.

Jim, a Transylvania native, was born on July 7th, 1940 to his parents J.B. Canup and Ora Shook Canup of Brevard. He was a brother to Joanne Jenkins and John Canup. After graduating from Brevard High School in 1959 he started work at Olin (Ecusta) where he worked for 37 years. He was married to his loving wife, Rose Hunter Canup, for 60 years. He was known as a loving Son, Husband, Daddy, Poppop, Possum and Friend. He had a playful spirit and enjoying seeing others smile.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Hunter Canup, children, Beverly Owen (Chip), Stephanie Baer (Jayson), James Canup (Tara) and his beloved grandchildren, Alex Cole, Chloe Shuford (Avery), Caroline Owen, Olivia Baer, Andrew Canup, Nataly Baer and Camree Owen.

Services for Jim will be Saturday, November 18th, 2023 at Turkey Creek Baptist Church of Pisgah Forest, NC. Receiving of friends 10am-11:20am with a service at 11:30am.

In lieu of flowers- donations may be made to Brevard High School Softball Program (609 N Country Club Road, Brevard NC, 28712) in memory of Jim Canup.
