Jimmie Houston Powell, 83, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, of Rosman, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

Jimmie was born on June 25, 1940, to the late Fields Langston and Hattie Whitmire Powell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Rosa Lee Ayers Powell and brothers, Walter, Pick, Stewart, Donald, Jerry, and Keith Powell.

He is survived by a daughter, Diane Ayers of the home, son, Robert Powell and wife, April, of Brevard, grandchildren, Kristen Champlin (Blake) of Greenville, South Carolina, Zachary, Joseph, Emma, Nelson, Ava, and Camden all of Brevard, one great grandson expected in April, one sister, Helen Avarie Gillespie of Virginia Beach, Virginia, two brothers, Harry (Carolyn) and Gerald (Mary) of Rosman, and many nieces and nephews.

Jimmie was a founding member of Rosman Fire and Rescue.  He was a lifelong horseman who enjoyed spending most of his time outdoors.  He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and loved his family with all of his heart.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Oaks for the care Jimmie received in his final days.

The family will receive friends at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:00 pm with a service to follow at 2:00 pm.  Burial will be at Powell Memorial Cemetery in Rosman.
