Joe Henry Osteen, age 88, of Brevard died Saturday April 10, 2010. He was born October 15, 1921 in Transylvania County to the late Thomas Zachery Osteen and Sally Rose Owens Osteen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Luke Osteen and Phillip Frank Osteen, one sister Sallie Edwards and a son-In-Law Roy Chapman.
Mr. Osteen was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir a U.S. Navy Veteran and was retired from Olin.
Survivors include his wife Agnes Owen Osteen of the home, three daughters; Mrs. Patricia Merrill and her husband A.J. of Brevard, Mrs. Genelle Chapman of Brevard and Mrs. Gail Warren and husband Ronnie of Pisgah Forest, one brother William "Bill" Osteen and his wife Imogene of Brevard, two sisters Mrs. Agnes Smith of Inwood W. VA. and Mrs. Blanche Barton of Brevard, six grandchildren Jeff Merrill of Pisgah Forest, Greta Baker of Fayetteville, Connie Case of Brevard, Crystal Merrill, Adrianne Dodson and Joe Merrill all of Pisgah Forest.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 13, 2010 at 2:00pm at Grace Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Sorrells and Rev. Kevin Morton. Interment will follow at Pisgah Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 2:00pm prior to the service on Tuesday at the Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Jeff and Joe Merrill, Richie Case, James Dodson, David and Michael Owen, Mark Osteen and O.D. Smith.
Memorials may be made to The Presbyterian Childrens Home in Black Mountain.
