Brevard - John William "Bill" Arden, passed March 9, 2015 as a result of a traumatic fall at home. Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Myrtle R. Arden; children: Martha Johnson, husband Gene, Bruce Arden, wife Janice, and Kathy Arden; Grandchildren: Aaron Johnson, Brian Arden; Great grandson: Chase Johnson. Cousins: Margaret P. Watkins, husband Owen, Shirley Head, Betty Armstrong, James Powell and Douglas Grant, Jr., wife Rhoda all of Texas; Terri Ann Ramsey and Mickey Arden of North Carolina; and Bob Baber, Jr. of New York. He is preceded in death by his parents John M. Arden, father and Nina Powell Arden, mother. Bill was born in Asheville, NC March 23, 1929. He graduated in 1947 from Lee H. Edwards High School and received a degree in engineering from North Carolina State University in 1951. He served in the United States Marine Corps carrier based Air Group. He was employed as an Industrial Engineer with Olin Matheson Corp and Transylvania Community Hospital as director of Materials Management. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 8, where he earned the rank of star, and served as Scoutmaster of troops 701 and 108. For over 55 years he was a member of Brevard First United Methodist Church serving as Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer and Head Usher for Funerals. Services will be at 2 PM Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Brevard First United Methodist Church with visitation following. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Brevard First United Methodist Church Piano Fund or to Daniel Boone Council Endowment Fund.
