Brevard – John Everett Sorrells, 91, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at his residence.
A native of Macon Co., he was the son of the late Everette Hosea Sorrells and Sarah Elizabeth Evans and was the husband of the late Lessie "Diddle" Norman Sorrells. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis, J. T., and Clyde Sorrells, and his sisters, Marenda Holden and Mazie Spafford.
Mr. Sorrells was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WW II. He retired from Ecusta after 40 years of service, working in the Chemical Building of the Film Division.
Mr. Sorrells enjoyed fishing, making a big garden with his brothers, and telling a good joke.
Surviving are his brothers, Earl E. Sorrells, James A. Sorrells, and Richard "Moby" Sorrells all of Brevard; several nieces and nephews who thought of he and Diddle as an extra dad and mom; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, February 27, 2011 in the Chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Norman officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the Honor Guard for Transylvania County Veterans.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Chapel.
