John H. Westerhoff, 66, of Brevard, passed away April 6 after a long illness. Born in Joliet, Illinois to Dorothy Kohrt and John H Westerhoff, he is survived by his loving wife, Agatha; daughter Kristin Meola (David) and granddaughter Olivia, of Scranton, PA; son John of Fairfax, VA; and daughter Jenny of Brooklyn, NY. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy of Boca Raton, FL; aunt Charlottle Parr of Greenville, SC; Rev. Ralph Westerhoff of Cincinnati, OH; brother David (Brooks) and niece Morgan of Greensboro, NC; sister Nancy of Kansas City, MO. His father, John, preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of University of Kansas and went on to receive a Master's Degree at Georgetown University. After graduation he joined the Army achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel upon retiring from the reserves. Much of his professional career was spent in the Washington DC area as an analyst and manager with The Defense Intelligence Agency. His specialty was in Soviet political military affairs. Soon after retiring, he became employed as the office manager at the Henderson County Sheriff's Department.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11am at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel in Brevard. Contributions can be made to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, in care of the Jack Westerhoff Memorial.
