Johnnie James Morgan, 80, of Frozen Creek, husband of Josephine Galloway Morgan, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital, Asheville.
Johnnie was born on May 12, 1931 in Transylvania County to the late Harvey and Gracie Miller Morgan. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert, and two sisters, Bessie Galloway and Mary Ruth Owen.
Johnnie had many different kinds of jobs, including logging and tool and die. He retired from Olin Corporation.
Johnnie had a love of animals, particularly dogs, and was an avid coon hunter. He won many championships and was presented a Lifetime Merit Award by the Forks-of-the-River Coon Hunters and Sportsman Club on May 29, 2011.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Josephine; daughter, Judy Morgan of Frozen Creek; brothers, Alfred Morgan and wife Mildred of Rosman, and H. P. Morgan and wife Elvina of Lake Toxaway; four sisters, Bertie Arrington of Lake Toxaway, Lottie McCall and husband Curt of Brevard, and Vera and Frances Morgan both of Cedar Mountain.
Johnnie has a large extended family including R. G. "Cotton" Galloway and wife Mildred, D. H. Galloway and wife Gail, Geraldine Chapman and husband D. H., Dr. Shelby Galloway of Fredericksburg, VA, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chester Chappell officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah Gardens. Pallbearers will be Donnie Rice, Greg McCall, Mike Petit, Alvin Owen, Terry Fisher, and David Holmes.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
