Obituary

Rosman – Johnny Humphrey Rogers, 77, of Elberton, GA, formerly of Rosman, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in Elberton. Mr. Rogers was a native of Transylvania County. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Mann Rogers, and his daughter, Tina Lynn Tucker, brother, David Lynn Rogers, and his granddaughter, Amber Skye Galloway. He was a former mayor of Rosman, served on the Board of Aldermen, and served as the Rosman Town Manager. He was a member of the Dunn's Rock Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Master Mason, and was a member of the Shrine Club. Mr. Rogers was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Korea, and was the former National Commander for AMVETS, and was a life member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also a life member of the Moose Lodge and he attended Rock Branch Baptist Church. A former member of Biltmore Holiness Temple, he served on the Board, and did mission work in the 1980's in Jamaica, where he helped build churches and schools. Mr. Rogers was the founder of WNC Construction and was the first licensed General Contractor in Transylvania County. Surviving are his wife, Ida Barton Rogers; his father, Robert Henry Rogers and wife Viola Cantrell Rogers; son, John Robert Rogers and wife Rhonda of Brevard; daughters, Megan Faith Rogers of the home, Lisa Marie Hyatt and husband Kelly of Latta, SC, Melissa Rogers McCall and husband Shannon of Fletcher, Lynn Barton Tyler of Pisgah Forest, and Pam Gaddy of Bryson City; brothers, William Boyce Rogers of Del Rio, TN, Darren Henry Rogers and Ronald Harrison Rogers both of Brevard; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. The funeral service was held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Moody-Connolly Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Wilkie officiated. Burial was in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with military graveside rites conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County. The family received friends on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris St., Greenville, SC 29605.
