Joseph Alves, 87, resident of Brevard passed away on Saturday October 14th at Pardee Hospital. He was born in San Diego California and moved to Brevard in 2002 and was preceded by his precious wife, Maria who also passed away 3 weeks earlier. Joseph and Maria enjoyed a loving marriage of 67 years. Joseph and his family helped pioneer the commercial tuna fishing industry during the 40's and 50's in San Diego. He later entered the retail business during the 60's-80's owning his own business in San Diego. He had a lively sense of humor and loved practical jokes that his grandchildren can attest to. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Sundstrom and husband Matt from Georgia and Rosemary and Frank Duckworth from Brevard. JoJo as he was called by his 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren will be greatly missed by his family. He could always be counted on for a prank or joke to keep everyone on their toes. A combined celebration of life for both Joseph and Maria will be held on November 11th at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
