Joseph Harold "Joe" or "Joey" Dowling, 63, of Forest City, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, after a year of declining health.  He was born on October 14, 1962, to the late John Robert Dowling and the late Anna Regina McCabe Dowling.

Joe attended Southeast High School in Bradenton, Florida.  He worked for many years in construction and became known as an exceptional painter.  He loved collecting antique signs, tools, and firearms, and he especially enjoyed working on his many cars, most of all his beloved 1979 Corvette.

Those who knew Joe will remember his sharp sense of humor and the affectionate nicknames he bestowed on his nieces, nephews, and others he loved, playful names like "rat face," "old flea," or "dirt bag."  His teasing was always followed by a booming laugh and a twinkle in his eye.  Being given one of Joe's nicknames was a sign of endearment, a small but memorable way he showed he cared.

Joe was preceded in death by his brother, John Robert Dowling. He is survived by his former wife and dear friend, Katrina Ladd of Forest City; his three children, Shannon Israel (Zack), Erica Dowling (Joey), and John Dowling (Iris Gwynn), his six grandchildren who knew him as "Pap Pap" and were the light of his life: Annamarie Lynn Dowling, Elijah Lee Dowling, Kylie Iris Dowling, Harper Marie Dowling, Willow Gracelynn Israel and Bryce Allen Dowling.  He is also survived by four siblings:  David Dowling (Carol) of Northville, Michigan; Desiree Perry (Alan) of Brevard, North Carolina; Dee Barr (Sam) of Bradenton, Florida; Mary Collazo (Lou) of Venice, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family who loved him dearly.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM at McGaha Cemetery in Brevard, with his brother-in-law Alan Perry officiating.
