Joseph Coleman "J. C." Owen, 70, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Oaks of Brevard. A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Fred and Nellie Wilde Owen. He was also preceded in death by two infant brothers, Jimmy and Johnnie Owen, and brother, Victor Owen. Mr. Owen was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He was of the Baptist faith. He was always helping people, those who had been in a wreck or some other accident or helping the elderly with any home construction remodeling job at no charge, providing a meal for someone in need, or paying for the persons groceries behind him in the line at the grocery store. He would want everyone to pay it forward. Surviving are his sons, Kenneth Owen and fiancée Bridget Stepp of Brevard, and William Owen and wife Teresa of Black Mtn.; brother, Michael Owen of Lake Toxaway; sisters, Mildred Powell of Rosman and Jolene Woodward and husband Richard of Lake Toxaway; grandchildren, Brienna Berry and husband Joey, Autumn Owen and fiancée Forrest, Kelli Owen, Christiana Powell and fiancee Forrest, Dienna Reese, Zachary Hensley, Elyssa Reese, Cassidy Hensley, Sidney Hensley, Wesley Owen, Taylor Owen and Sara Owen; great-grandchildren, Elijah Berry, Kyndall Fisher, Charlotte Berry, Shylee O'Shields, Easton Berry, and Lane Lee; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 5 PM Saturday, August 17, 2013 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Owen officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
