Obituary

Joseph N. Vanhook of Cedar Mountain went to his eternal home on January 14, 2025.     Joseph graduated from Travelers Rest High School. He married Jane Gwinn, of Greenville S.C., in 1967. They were married for 57 years. Joseph was in the US Army for 20 years. After his retirement from the army, he drove a truck for 20 years, during which he traveled to all 50 states, including Hawaii. He retired and moved to Cedar Mountain N.C in 2007. He really enjoyed living there with Jane, and visiting with those who stopped by to speak with him while sitting on his porch.

Joseph is survived by his wife Jane; siblings, Norman Vanhook of Travelers Rest, Oscar Vanhook and his wife Stella of Chattanooga, Pete Vanhook and his wife Joyce of West Pelzer, George Vanhook and his wife Glenda, Gail Slyar and her husband Sy; two grandchildren Alex and Ashlyn; three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his parents and his son, Nelson.

A service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at Rocky Hill Baptist Church at 10811 Greenville Highway, Cedar Mountain on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will follow the service.
