Obituary

Cashiers - Judith Adams Henson (Judy) died peacefully on June 7, 2023.

Judy and her twin sister, Jane, were born on May 18, 1949 in Columbia, South Carolina, to Joseph C. Adams, Jr., and Valeria Hartzog Adams. She graduated from Winthrop University in 1971 and moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where she met her future husband, Ed Henson, on a blind date. Ed and Judy were married on June 10, 1973 in Columbia, SC. June 10, 2023 would have been their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

Longtime residents, Judy and Ed moved to Highlands in 1974, where Judy began working as an interior designer for Cobbies of Cashiers. They moved to Cashiers in 1979. In 2002, Judy and her partner, Carol Hartley, opened their interior design business, C. J. Brownhouse, in Cashiers, which Judy continued to own and operate.

As a devoted member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Judy dedicated much of her time and energy to serving the Cashiers community through volunteer work in and around the church, including serving on the Vestry, the Church Bazaar, Hines Hall Building Committee, and a member of the Daughters of the King.

Judy will perhaps be most remembered for the endless care she showed to those around her, and her contagious laughter.

Judy was predeceased by her parents and by her brother, Joseph C. Adams, III. She is survived by her husband John Edwin Henson (Ed) of Cashiers, son, John A. Henson, and wife, Theresa A. Redmond, and their sons, Jonah and Ellis, all of Boone, NC, her twin sister, Jane A. Dixon and husband, Henry Dixon of Ridgeway, SC, nephew, Lee Dixon, and niece, Ginny Kelly.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 26, 2023 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cashiers, NC, with a reception immediately following the service in Hines Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Judy may be made to the Conkle-Rowe Scholarship Fund at the Church of the Good Shepherd, PO Box 32, Cashiers, NC 28717, or to a charity of your choice.
