Karen Kiser Austin, 64 of Brevard, died Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at her lake house in Central, SC.
A native of Cullowhee, NC, she lived in Transylvania County for most of her life. She spent the last years of her life living her dream, retired and spending time between the mountains of WNC and the lake.
Anyone that knew her was aware that walking paths throughout WNC forests and working in her garden were where she loved to be. Moreover, her noteworthy green thumb and the remarkable ability to identify these woods' botanical variety. Wildflowers were her favorite, particularly the Pink Lady's Slipper. However, she never passed up good company, good music, and celebration.
The countless lives she nurtured back to health at Transylvania County Hospital ICU for over twenty years are a testament to her true calling, taking care of others. God was always her foundation which facilitated a unique ability to connect with others through her tremendous spirit, generosity, kindness, compassion, knowledge, unwavering love and undeniable altruism.
Without a doubt our mother was an extraordinary woman in every sense of the word. What made her this will forever be remembered for all those that had the honor of making her acquaintance.
She is survived by her loving children, Daniel C. Austin, Anna G. Harmon, Nicholas E. Austin, Katie, Chris, and Meghan Gearing and adoring husband Bill Gearing of Brevard, NC; father of her children, Kevin C. Austin; Mother, Sarah C. Kiser of Cullowhee; NC, sister, Donna K. Stoltz; brother, Tyree H. Kiser III; and 6 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father Tyree H. Kiser, Jr of Cullowhee, NC and sister Cynthia K. Bowman of Spruce Pine, NC.
A Memorial service to be held on July 8, 2021 as a gathering of friends and family from 3-6pm at her home: 66 Hemlock Ridge Trail Pisgah Forest, NC. Celebration of life attire.
