Brevard - Karen Antonia Henegar (Norman), 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 2, 2024.
Karen was born in Detroit, MI on May 16, 1935 and moved to Miami Beach, FL as a child. She attended the University of Florida where she earned a BS in Interior Design/Architecture and was a member of the sorority Alpha Omicron Pi. In 1955 she married her husband of 38 years, Vernon Brooks Henegar who preceded her in death in 1994.
She volunteered at numerous local organizations and served as a board member of Wycliffe Associates. She was a long time resident of Brevard, NC and traveled the world. Her family and friends will remember her for her artistic talents, her quick wit, her love of family, her loyalty to friends and her commitment to Bible study and prayer.
Karen is survived by her children, Verna Franklin (Gary), Jack Henegar, Jim Henegar (Donna), and Christine Thompson (Scott), her grandchildren Tim Franklin (Kristin), Jonathan Sparks-Franklin (Sarah), Elizabeth Patterson (Logan), Jenna Thompson, Ashley Sterr (Mark) and Noelle Yantz who preceded her in death in 2023. Karen also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren Erin, Ellie, Nolan, Cora, Jake, Levi, Leah, Bailey, Miles and Madelyn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church in Brevard, NC on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM with the service following at 11 AM. The graveside service will be held immediately following at Evergreen Gillespie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to The Center for Women, 134 S Johnson Street, Brevard, NC 28712.
