Katherine English Anderson, a lifelong resident of Brevard and Transylvania County, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Born on Oct. 28, 1918, she was the daughter of Dr. Edwin Strawbridge English and Leila Pickelsimer English, and was married to the former editor of The Transylvania Times, John Inge Anderson Jr. She was both a city council member and mayor of Brevard, was manager of WPNF Radio for 30 years, and was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Brevard. She is survived by her four children, Jon Anderson, of Jackson, Miss ., Mary Dunn, of Lilburn, Ga ., Penny Woods, of Midlothian, Va ., and Rose Shepherd, of Jensen Beach, Fla .; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Brevard. Memorials may be made to Transylvania County Hospice or First United Methodist Church.
