Obituary

Kathleen Cannon Samuelsen Brevard, NC – Kathleen Cannon Samuelsen, 89, died Friday, February 12, 2016 at her home. Services will be held Wednesday, February 17,2016 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home chapel at 3 PM. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. Kathleen (Kat) was born at her grand-mother's home on July 9, 1926 in Georgetown County SC. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Samuelsen; her father, Hallie Grafton Cannon; mother, Louise Eason Cannon; brother, Charles Cannon; and sisters, Jamie Cannon Breuer; and Colleen Cannon Petit Kelly. She is survived by her sister Marilyn Cannon Hendricks and husband E.B. of Perkinston, MS.; her daughter, Jo Ann Whitlock of Moncks Corner, S.C.; son, Robert Terry (Sam) Samuelsen and his wife Cynthia of Maggie Valley, N.C., son, Randall Samuelsen and his wife Christina of Goose Creek, S.C.; daughter, Katherine (Kathy) Swanson and husband Ted Smith of John's Island, S.C. and son, David (Razz) Samuelsen of Brevard, N.C.; grandchildren, Robert Whitlock, Wendy Carter, Jonathan Smith, Camille Swanson, Aren Samuelsen, Del Samuelsen, Casey Samuelsen; great-grandchildren, Destiny Whitlock, Cody Whitlock, Matthew Whitlock, Carol Carter, and Patrick Carter. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She graduated from N. Charleston High School in N. Charleston, S.C. Her whole life she was involved in the activities of her children and community. She was a Cub Scout Leader, PTA President, a substitute teacher, and served on both the Girl Scout and Boy Scout Councils, was President of several Garden Clubs, and the Williamson Creek Civic Club. Kathleen worked with the U.S. Forest Service both in Brevard and at the Supervisor's Office in Asheville. She enjoyed camping, traveling, reading, and painting in oils as well as water colors. She was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, The Brevard Athletic Club and the Brevard Art Guild. The family would like to thank staff and nurses of Hospice for the kindness and excellent care they provided for Kathleen. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Transylvania County.
