IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathryn Jane
Zumstein
September 19, 1945 – May 14, 2024
Pisgah Forest - Jane Whitmire Zumstein, 78, passed away peacefully at her home with her family on May 14, 2024.
She was born in Transylvania County on September 19, 1945, and was the middle child of William Theodore (WT) and Edna Poole Whitmire.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years David Zumstein, as well as four children, Debra Zumstein (Wil Kazary) of Savannah, GA; Jonathan Zumstein of Salt Lake City, UT; Jason Zumstein (Brena Lepore) of Brevard; Adam Zumstein of Bishop CA, and three grandchildren Isla, Alexander and Benjamin.
Jane was an outgoing, positive person who never met a stranger. She had the ability to engage in conversation with just about anyone that she met, a skill that was very suitable for her at the Radio Shack that she owned and operated with her husband for over 40 years where they happily addressed the electronic needs of their customers.
Jane's passion was gardening. Jane had an amazing green thumb for all plants. She grew a variety of vegetables each summer that she would freeze, can, preserve, and put aside for the winter. Her floral garden beds around the house changed with the seasons, displaying a variety of colors, designs, and varietals. She especially enjoyed visiting botanical gardens and participating in garden tours and lectures at Silvermont Park & Mansion. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed many trips both state side and abroad with her family, always fascinated with learning about the local flora in various locations around the world that she visited.
A celebration of life gathering will be announced for later this year.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Friends of Silvermont, silvermont.org.
