Kirk Patrick Browne passed away in his sleep on Saturday, Feb 26th at 10:00 a.m. He was 69 years old. Kirk was born in Spokane, Washington on November 10, 1941. His parents, David and Mary Browne, also from Spokane, had ten children: David, Kirk, Anthony, Alec, Lauretta, Jeffrey, Cornelius, Stephen, Julia, and Kristine.
As a toddler, Kirk was famous in his neighborhood for escaping from home whenever he had the chance. On more than one occasion, his mother would answer the door only to find Kirk and the local beat cop hand in hand. Kirk attended St. Joseph's grade school and Gonzaga Prep in Spokane.
After high school, Kirk and his wife, Kay Platt, settled in Seattle, Washington with their two daughters, Susan and Margaret. Kirk and Kay eventually parted ways and Kirk headed north to Barrow, Alaska, where he met the future mother, Harriett Koonaloak, of his daughter, Amanda. Kirk worked for Housing and Urban Development in Barrow for over twenty years until his retirement in 2010.
After years of 40 degrees below zero winters, Kirk and his family decided to move to Brevard to be closer to the sun as well as other family members who currently reside in Brevard. Before and after retirement, Kirk enjoyed reading and spending time with his loved ones. He was well known to his family and friends for his generous spirit, gentle manner and dry sense of humor.
Kirk is survived by Harriett, his daughters, Susan, Margaret, and Amanda, and grandchildren, Connor, Alexander, and Donald, Jr. Service will be held in the Moody-Connolly chapel, 181 South Caldwell St., Brevard, NC on Friday, March 4th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at Moody-Connolly.
