Kittie-Louise Marchant Winterhalter May 1, 1933 – March 23, 2025 Kittie-Louise Marchant Winterhalter, a resident of Brevard, NC, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born in West Haven, Connecticut on May 1, 1933, Kittie was the daughter of the late Edward Bradley Marchant and Louise Clark Marchant.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Alan Richard Winterhalter; her sister, Ruth Marchant Russell; and her granddaughter, Kacy Clark Winterhalter.
Kittie graduated from West Haven High School in 1950 and went on to earn her degree from Keuka College, Keuka, NY in 1954. Alan and Kittie were married on October 1,1955 and began their married life in Brevard. Alan's job with Olin Corporation required moves to Covington, IN,1957, where all three children were born, back to Brevard in the mid 1960's, to Danville, Il in 1970 and finally returning to Brevard in 1980 where Alan and Kittie retired. A firm believer that "charity begins at home," Kittie lived her life with compassion and a heart for service. She was an active member of the Salvation Army and served on the board of directors in Brevard, Asheville and Danville, volunteered in the sorting room of the Shop of St. Phillips, AAUW in her young married life, and a member of the Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years, where she was an active member in women's circle. Kittie found joy in life's simple pleasures — golfing, knitting, traveling, gardening, shopping at Talbots, and especially time spent at the beach. Above all, her greatest joy came from her family — her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her endless love and pride.
She is survived by her three children: Gail L. Winterhalter; John A. Winterhalter (Kathleen); and Amy Winterhalter Lowe (Danny). Her grandchildren: Abigail Carson Hall (Brandon), Jason James "JJ" Winterhalter (fiancé, Kaylin Freeman), and Sara Kate Lowe; as well as her beloved great-grandchildren: Theodore and Sampson Hall, and Avery and Sadie Winterhalter. She is also survived by her brother, Charles E. Marchant (Barbara Guerrero); brothers-inlaw David L. Winterhalter and Douglas Russell; sister-in-law Cynthia C. Winterhalter; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Kittie's life will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, 181 S Caldwell Street, Brevard, NC, with visitation to follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Kittie's memory to Salvation Army of Transylvania County, 126 N. Caldwell Street, Brevard, NC 28712; The Shop of St. Philips, c/o St. Philip's Church, 256 East Main St, Brevard, NC 28712; or Four Seasons Hospice.
